Hi {{first_name | friend}},

Last week, I tried using a $20 credit to run my first ad on TikTok. Full disclosure: I’m not a big TikToker. I created an account solely to connect with Gen Z readers.

I chose a video where I read an excerpt from my grandmother’s memoir, paired with a caption making a gentle plea for peace for the sake of our shared humanity.

The result? TikTok rejected the ad, deeming it “political.”

It took me a week to process this bewildering decision, leaving me with a this question: If a message of peace and humanity is considered "political," how are we ever supposed to heal from collective trauma?

I share my full breakdown of this in my latest Substack essay below. But it also reminded me how grateful I am for communities, platforms, and readers like you who aren't afraid to have these deep, necessary conversations.

On that note, here are a few ways we can connect, reflect, and share this story together this week:

  • Live Virtual Event (This Week): I’m partnering with the Polish Heritage Center for a free online event. Click below to register and add it to your calendar!

  • Latest Podcast: I sat down with Kid Carson to discuss my grandmother's story, intergenerational trauma, and the path to healing. Listen to the episode below.

  • In the Press: Check out my recent feature article in The Good Men Project.

Thank you for being on this journey with me and for standing for peace.

With gratitude,

Iza

The fundraiser for Inna is still live!

Thank you to those who have already donated - thanks to your support, we have been able to get her girls out of harm’s way. Funds were used to purchase bus tickets out of Ukraine, with the girls staying with their grandmother in Poland. They could use some additional support as they navigate this uncertain time, click below to donate.
